The source code for Simplex BBS is available for purchase if you are
interested in so doing. The purchase of the source code will help
defray some of the costs involved in the development of this BBS
software, and will allow you to make changes to personalize your BBS.
There are over 78,000 lines of C code involved in this project, defined
for both DOS and OS/2. The code was written in Microsoft C 5.10 and
6.00, and Watcom 8.5 and is ANSI compatible.
There are certain limitations to purchase of the code, to which you have
to agree with by signing and dating below before you will receive the
source code. This is to protect my interests in the project.
The source code costs US $175 payable by check, cashier's check, or money
order to Chris Laforet Software or Chris Laforet. Non-US residents
must submit US funds via bank draft DRAWN ON A US BANK (Please, no
Euro-checks). Please do not send cash by mail.
North Carolina residents must add a 5% state sales tax ($8.75) and
mail to the alternate address below. The source code will be shipped
to you on either 360K 5.25" or 720K 3.5" format diskettes.
Once you have made the source code purchase, you are given access to
a new file area on The Programmer's Oasis (919/226-6984) and on The
Programmer's Oasis 2 (919/226-7136). This access allows you at any
time to download the latest copy of Simplex's source of the same series.
This way, your investment is guaranteed.
Once you engineer changes into Simplex, you are allowed to use them for
yourself (or company), however you are not permitted to redistribute
them in object code form (unless you arrange for a royalty licence). If
you wish to see your changes incorporated in the distribution version of
Simplex, feel free to send them to Chris Laforet Software with a signed
release permitting Chris Laforet Software the unrestricted use of your
code. Of course, your other option is to build an external utility which
you can distribute in any form that you wish. If you do that, please
send a copy of it up to the Simplex Distribution Area on Chris Laforet's
Software BBSes. Many Simplex users call over there to check on what new
programs are available! Telephone numbers for either of the BBSes are
in URGENT.DOC.
If you wish to use Simplex as the platform for another project such as
a client support system, you must arrange for a royalty licence.
Generally a royalty for the use of Simplex code will run around 10% to
15% of your sales price. This can be discussed at greater length if
necessary. Please address a letter requesting a royalty licence to
Chris Laforet at Chris Laforet Software at the address below.
Please fill-in the form below, sign it, and mail it along with your check
or money-order payable in US funds to the respective address below.

copyrights on the source code.
